Idra Kayne. Singer, actor, artist

We met one of the most distinctive voices of the Greek music scene and let ourselves in her tremendous energy.

She is an actor. She is a singer. He is a music producer. She is wonderful.

She doesn't remember the first time she realized she was and therefore wants to be an artist. "I must have been 3, maybe 4, I don't know. All I know is that I don't remember wanting anything else." He was not one of those children who sang wherever he stood and wherever he found himself. "At family tables, and and. Nothing to do with". She loved music very much. She doesn't remember it, but her parents describe to her the times when, at the age of 3, she invited them and her brother to the living room and, together with her electronic piano, gave a concert just for them.

Her first primary memory is a tape. "I was listening to a lot of music. My brother gave me a Kylie Minogue tape, and I was blown away." Throughout her school years, she was found - quite - introverted and in the choir. She would have been around 12 years old when she decided to ask the question, "what will you be when you grow up" to change the "I don't know" of the previous years to "actor". She saw a movie and liked it a little more, and one thing led to another.

Then, the era of Panhellenic came, and everything was lost in the stress of "how much to read" and "what to study". The introversion continued. Become an English teacher? Psychologist; "I studied social worker, and I have left seven courses I never taught". He has a bachelor's degree. He has done an internship. "In the last exams, I said no. It can't be done anymore. Refuse. I fought it for seven years. I tried".

She told her parents she wanted to be an actress at 17, just before the Panhellenic Games. "There was ice cream left. I was timid." Her dad was from Uganda, and her mom was Greek. They lived in Kypseli. Indra still lives there and does not change her. They liked going to the theatre and watching movies. Growing up, she decided that she couldn't be so collected. "I said, it's not coming out like that now. I try to be polite and social because I feel like that's normal. I force myself not to do that."

At first, her first thought was that she wanted to act in movies. "Growing up and because we watched a lot of theatre as a family, I thought I would like to do that too." He will say the phrase, "But I wasn't one of those kids who would say something like that" again. He believed that such a thing could not be done.

If she had to choose the best period of her life as her favourite, she would choose: "The last two years." Until two years ago, she would say: "There, around 23, 24 when I went and stayed alone. After that, I started working seasonally in Io, and it is true that there, I discovered my femininity and felt more myself and that I don't want to hide. Nevertheless, today I will tell you that I wish I had even then the brains that I have had in the last two years". She would say it would have saved him a lot of trouble, and we would laugh together.

"I am the most tiresome and biggest supporter of psychotherapy." He hasn't tried it through art; she's happened to read about it and see a documentary. "I find it very interesting", he'll say and go on: "Anything did guys with psychotherapeutic work is good to do. I'm terribly in favour of it more than ever now ».

Her objective difficulty in the music scene was English-language singing. "It's not that popular in the Greek scene; what can we do? They are completely different sizes."Because of this, she grew up with foreign music, which may be why he is more comfortable expressing himself through it. "It might have been a bit of fear that now with how I look, what music should I sing. For example, it seemed almost impossible for me to do RnB in Greek." He had a phobia not to dare this. "But now it's gone; I thought I wanted to bring change. When you hit rock bottom, you scratch a little further down, and you necessarily change because of that, and I believe that now more than ever is the ground for new ideas to be expressed and implemented."

She doesn't know what she could do if she weren't an artist. In a parallel universe: "I think if I didn't have any talent, I would be a primary school teacher or generally do a job that would come into contact with children. I believe that's the only way I wouldn't wither." She's not too far from this parallel universe since she appears in the Kappa Theatre's children's show, Rapunzel Without a Fairy Tale. He has taught for many years at the Conservatory. "If I'm into music, I want to be into music. If I deal with teaching, respectively."

She is constantly making plans for the future. "In the next five years, I see myself rich and successful." She stops her sentence, and we laugh. Then he continued: "I like to set small goals. I think: 'What do you want to do?', 'What do you want to be your next step' and I go like this." If someone had told her seven years ago that "in 2023 you will work professionally as an actress, you will do your live shows, you will be relatively recognizable by some people, I would say there is no way this will happen". That's why her goals for the next period are "to develop in the acting part. Musically, I want to release new material in Greek as well as in English" and collaborate with people he admires. "I have been fortunate in this area. These people have come as a gift to my life."

During this time, she plays (also) in the show "Butterflies in the Stomach" at the Theater of Neos Kosmos, which is staged under the direction of Constantinos Rigos. "Rigos is diverse. I wish to spend a day inside his head to see what he thinks and how that mind works." At first, in rehearsals, when they were discussing the text and improvising, she was at a loss. "I was like, 'Oh my God,' how will this be done? And somewhat magically, it happened."

Speaking of her work, let's say that every day from 16.00 to 18.00, we listen to her on Pride Fm 98.6. "I understand that the station was aimed at a certain audience because of the title and the past when it was online. Now, I think we're all addressing the people who live in 2023, are evolving with society, want to evolve, and are tired of the old and the rotten." He's in the phrase: "Yeah, guys, things are changing. Acceptance, inclusion, diversity. I know that some people now consider this all a fad, but ok, and it's a fad; it's not bad if all this ends up living in a normal world." He supports the marches. "I understand that the other person may be afraid; I am also afraid because I know that chemicals may fall, you may meet people you don't want, and and and and but we can no longer be apathetic and watch the marches from the couch."

He doesn't have time to have a hobby. "For the last few years, seeing a show or going to the cinema has been very decompressing." She recently saw "Ghosts of Inicerin" and liked it. "If people still danced, I'd go out dancing, and I used to do that a long time ago."

And one of her wishes for the future: is "To realize how strong we are. Even if someone thinks they don't have a voice, they do, and many others want to join their voices with them." Because "the people will save the people". It's her favourite motto at the moment, she'll tell me, and we'll close the conversation so she can make it to the Theater on time.
