The Weekly Collection #9

The Weekly Collection #9

What's happening in town? What will happen in restaurants, bars, theatre & music scenes that you want to be there?

The day has begun to grow longer, while the night is finally getting sweeter. The city is heading towards Easter, and slowly, with whatever strength it has left, it prepares for Resurrection. The Oscars are coming. Spring follows them.

We are numb. And we will be. The conditions we are experiencing are complex and unprecedented. Yet, the experience of a not-so-carefree life has become a daily routine. And we are called to face this everyday life with all the supplies and reserves we have in courage and desire to live.

We have reached the 9th weekly collection, and it is time to say that this column is written and created to stimulate this above desire for life. For learning. For new experiences that give us some powerful and happy stories to share. For unknown pleasures that may lead us to a new window with a completely different view than the one, we were used to until now.

Let's see what we can discover in March in the city.

He just put his pin on the centre's food and dance map:? Leather Stamps

Where: Agias Theklas 9, Athens

When: 08.00-00.00 and the bar Friday & Saturday is open until 02.00

Social; Facebook

Why: We love shops with a story behind them a little more. Because it's nice where you sit and order your smoked eel with fava beans, sweet potato chips, tomato jam and aromatic olive oil to know that there were once presses that put stamps on each skin. Yes, Leather Stamps is what its name says. Or rather, it was what its name says. So now it's the place to eat breakfast - all days of the week - lunch and dinner while listening to good music and drinking solid cocktails.

But let's start from the beginning and first, what will you eat once you go: Fish and chips are timeless. The cod is fresh, the chips are crispy, and since Leather Stamps closes with the word pub, it could be included in its menu. Another strong choice, since we caught the fish, is the salmon with peanuts and the sauteed millet with leeks and plums. If you're into meat, the tagliata should be on your order, while if you want something more "dirty," then the burger is a vital thought worth implementing.

Extra tip: Remember to eat dessert. don't. A breath away from you is a millefeuille with vanilla chocolate ice cream that wants to meet you.

And now that we've eaten, let's get to the drinks:

Besides being the same team, Leather Stamps shares the love for good electronic music and fantastic basement parties with our favourite Crust (which we talked about in our 3rd weekly collection). So if you have to do something when we get closer to the end of each week, it is to come in and check out the events organized by the store since there will be many, and they will have favourite DJs from the Athenian and not only the electronic scene.

From cocktails, try their Negroni with mezcal or prefer one of the exceptional cocktails on their list. If you're into beer (pub gar), it would be good to know that at the bar, you can ask for the store's beer - which, yes, is theirs.

The venue is large and has enough space to accommodate you; however, a reservation is always good.

The show we want to see: Akudorahis of the PYR team

Where: At Dimotiko theatro Pirea

When: Until 9/04

Why: Io Voulgaraki is a director; you want to follow her progress on stage. On the one hand, he has a tremendously exciting point of view to present, and on the other hand, the texts he tackles are primarily fascinating. With "Arkudorachi", a play by theatre and film writer Ed Thomas, the PYR team, under the direction of Ious, aspires to welcome us to a post-apocalyptic setting where "the shadow of an invisible war covers everything and forever" and to speak to us through the powerful performances of her actors about loss. The beloved and consistently inventive Argyris Xafis, the excellent Despina Kourtis, Iosif Iosifidis and Dimitris Georgiadis await - and deserve - your applause on the stage of an imposing theatre such as the Municipal Theater of Piraeus.

The concert you want to see: Trumpeter Tom Harell at SNFCC's Cosmos

Where: At ΚΠΙΣΝ

When: 13/03 at 20.30 in the Stavros Niarchos Hall

Why: Because the SNFCC's cosmos series of concerts is a habit that has become a cult for all music lovers of all genres, but also because it's so lovely when you can hear good jazz, especially when it comes from one of its most essential exponents.

"Trumpeter of the Year" by the Jazz Journalists Association (JJA) with the overall contribution honour from the Festival of New Trumpet

Music has dozens of Grammy awards and countless accolades from magazines

DownBeat and JazzTimes in his pocket, Tom Harell is considered one of the few living musical geniuses. With countless accolades, the 76-year-old American trumpeter, composer and saxophone master comes for one night only to the SNFCC to introduce himself to the Greek audience by stimulating their senses. With over 280 recordings, Harrell stays relevant and creative, delivering a new album almost every year, touring the world non-stop with his quartet, and constantly enriching his compositions with new challenges and influences.

The exhibition that just opened and awaits us: "Playground Lovers" at Blender Gallery

Where: The Blender Gallery

Until when: Until 9/04

Why: For all those times we asked ourselves the following questions:

«Dear me, how did you process your feelings? What do you wish you could have said or done differently at that time?»

Praising carefree childhood through pyrography, photography, sculpture, ceramics, video, painting on paper and prints on surfaces, contemporary visual artists such as Marianna Dervou, Christoforos Doulgeris, Irini Theodosis (irzzy), Iordanis Kalimerakis, Alexandros Maganiotis, Kostas Berdeklis, Theodoros Bruskomatis, Eleni Tsamadia, Angelos Haniotis try to express feelings that are forgotten familiar to us. Based on a letter, the artists wondered how we face the future while still children.

Free entrance

The film that brings Willem Dafoe to Greece: Inside by Vassilis Katsoupis

At cinemas in the city

When: All week

Why: First, four times isn't enough to be nominated for an Oscar if you have Dafoe's talent and crazy eye. Then, it is one of the most critical good moments of Greek cinema when he collaborates with names like the one we have already written twice in just three lines. Playing a burglar during a valuable art heist that goes awry, Dafoe finds himself suddenly trapped in a luxurious and technologically advanced New York penthouse. Will he find a way to survive? The answer to the big screens that need our support today more than ever.
