The Weekly Collection #16

The Weekly Collection #16

What's happening in town? What will happen in restaurants, bars, theatre & music scenes that you want to be there?

Let's go. The weather is getting better. Holidays are around the corner. The Festivals have started for good with very, very (very, did we say?) good gigs, performances, and events. At this stage, this triptych is enough for us. To begin to believe that this summer is not only invalid rains and traffic jams (because the truth is, that's how June leaves us). However, since the easiest thing to complain about is to say that he also goes us with some fantastic performances such as Mariano Pensotti's La Ombra that those of us who managed to see, I think we agreed that it was one of his -so far- highlights of this year's Athens Festival. With some terrible concerts like that of Rosalia (which we mentioned in the previous Weekly) as part of Snf Nostos Festival & Release Athens.

But it's time to talk about what's to come. Because, classically, there are many. It's nice. And ideally, we want to go everywhere.

For wine and food at Junior does wine

Where: Mayandrou 5, Ilisia

When: Every day except Monday, 18.00-01.00

On Social; Instagram | Facebook

Why: Summer without wine with friends and conversations that raise the tone of laughter or seriousness (depending on the company and the phase) is not summer. Junior Does wine, with a list of around 80 wines from all over the world that is constantly growing thanks to the curation of Vasiliki Galani, is as hidden as it needs to be and as cute as it needs to be included in the options for your after office drink and not only that. Giorgos Katsaros is the moral author of this small relaxed bar; from your first contact with him, you understand that you will get along well. Because it's fun and, most importantly, doesn't require anything from you, while it has much to offer you. Since we talked about the wines, let's talk about the menu (since they go together, how can we do it). Chef Yiannis Tsikoudakis has undertaken to prepare a small but miraculous menu to accompany your wine.

What should I get? The tacos with trout fillet, tuna, capers, lime, cilantro and a magic mayonnaise complete the pleasure. It's truly unforgettable and fills you up. Of course, the variety of cheeses is another must. You drink wine! However, apart from the fact that it is an excellent accompaniment to your drink, the choices are excellent since in a variety of 3 kinds of cheese; for example, you can have: a Limnos basket with white and black sesame, goat cheese with Centaur petals (don't be afraid, it's an edible flower), Blue Greek cheese topped with hazelnut caramelized with strawberry. Yes, indeed, I had saved the best for last. Once you try it, you'll love it too!

The different exhibit, before you leave town: Lost Memorabilities

Where At the Εθνικού Αρχαιολογικού Μουσείου coffee shop

When: Until July 4 (Everyday: From 08.00 - 19.00 & every Tuesday from 13.00 - 19.00)

Why: This is the exhibition of sculptures by Giorgos Triantafyllopoulos, Dimitris Tabakis, Lazaros - Philippa Papadopoulos and Orestes Karalis, which comes to negate the logic of rest. Curated by the former, the exhibition "Lost Memorabilities" seeks to stir the waters of the organized tour economy and reverse the immersion in the historical continuum of the museum narrative. The visual artists aim to talk about the ceremony, the process, the materiality, and the technique in the post-digital present, and this happens through the Museum cafe, which functions as a place of disconnection, the chemistry of a dragon of creators whose works oscillate between the timeless rawness of stone, metal and in the inevitable division of the "visible" by modern computing megastructures.

Where do I book a ticket? Participation is free and does not require pre-booking.

The concert we can't wait to go to: Robbie Williams at Rockwave Festival

Where: Terra Vibe

When: July 1st

Why: "Hello, Athens, Greece. I am Robbie Williams, and I'm super excited to return to Athens on July 1st to rock the stage of Rockwave Festival". Because Robbie, in a few words, is returning to Malakasa, and those of us who were there the first time and experienced the great havoc he made when he went on stage understand his joy. The truth is that he had promised us then that he would return. Well, he said it, and he did it. Because apparently, he knows how to keep his promises. It remains to be seen if he can outdo himself in this life. Because the previous one, at least until July 1st, will be considered by everyone who saw him there unsurpassed. Come on, Robbie, show us what else you got!

Where can I book? Rockwave Festival 2023 | Robbie Williams | Εισιτήρια online! | Viva.gr

The show we want to see: Transgressions: A Midsummer Night's Dream

Where: At the park of ΚΠΙΣΝ

When: June 28-30 & July 3-4 at 8:30 p.m

Why: After their successful course, the Transgressions are transferred from the Dome to the Stavros Niarchos Park, and this is a moment when we want to become communicants. William Shakespeare's most travelled work, A Midsummer Night's Dream, is presented in a specially designed dramatic reading directed by Hector Lygizou, who completes the highly successful series of surprising analogies that bore the general title of Love Matches. In alphabetical order, Manos Vavadakis, Eva Vlassopoulou, George Ziakas, Konstantinos Zografos, George Iliopoulos, Vicky Kyriakoulakou, Hector Lygizos, Flomaria Papadakis, Katerina Patsiani, Nancy Sideris, Jason Stasinos, Thanos Tokakis undertake to create, following the lines of their director. This magical space holds only dreams and applause.

The films we want to see are at the 13th Open Air Festival

In the most beautiful and emblematic places of the city

Where: Check it out HERE

We singled out the "Siren of the Mississippi" by the one and only Francois Truffaut, which will be presented on June 27 at the Gardens of the French School of Athens in collaboration with the Plein-Air Festival of the French Institute. However, many proposals are again this year and free to enter. If it didn't smell like summer, a French movie in the open air would surely blow your nose.

Till next time: Happy summer!
