It's always a good time for Summer Cinema

An all-time classic film in summer cinema is probably one of the best moments you can experience in summer.

Popcorn and cold beer. The sound of gravel as you walk. The coolness that comes as night falls. The acquaintances you will meet before the start or during the movie break. It is probably one of the most familiar feelings we all have from the summer cinemas in the city.

Combining all these with the movie masterpieces of the 50s - 70s gives you a great moment of summer happiness.

But which cinemas continue to offer that unique experience?

Movies like Antonioni's Blow-upHitchcock's North by Northwest and Strangers on a TrainLouis Malle's Elevator to the Gallowsand Wilder's Some Like It Hot with Marilyn, can undoubtedly make a summer dedicated to cinema. Within movies, it would be unfair not to mention the excellent movie Elvis, which is not in this category.

Movies like these and many more can be seen in cinemas this year.

EKRAN

Zonara street & Agathiou street, Neapoli Exarcheion

A cinema in Exarchia, with a long history. Perhaps the cinema that Athenians visited in the 70s and 80s more than any other to see cinephile films. He turned the interest of the Athenian public towards avant-garde art cinema, the French new wave and independent international productions.

Quite characteristic on its facade is the Moon of Melies. Now it is renovated, with a lovely bar/canteen, but it maintains the amiable atmosphere it had since the beginning of its operation.

CINE FLOISVOS

Flisvos Park (near Flisvos Marina)

Cine Flisvos is the only summer cinema of Palaio Faliros, next to the Flisvos marina.

It is the most popular cinema in the area as almost all the official premieres for the summer films take place there. Moreover, one can enjoy their drink and food in a green environment in the outdoor space.

AELLO

140, Patision street

A classic, historic cinema in the centre of Athens, on Patision Street, operating since 1939. It maintains a balance in its halls between more commercial films and classic, cinephile masterpieces from previous decades. It is a significantly upgraded cinema with state-of-the-art projection and sound systems which also hosts a summer cinema, with a lovely aesthetic on its roof. In the magic of the point and the excellent bar on the same floor, you forget that you are in the centre of Athens.

VOX

82, Themistocleus street

It is a cinema with a long history, which is that it has never closed, no matter what happens in the wider area.

The venue has a classic old beauty and consistently selects mainly cinephile films without excluding contemporary cinema. It is definitely worth the visit, as you will find yourself in a central point of culture both in the area and in the centre of Athens.

RIA

Mati, 20 Poseidonos Ave

The summer cinema Ria is one of the old cinemas in the holiday area, operating since 1963. It is what we call the meeting point of the site as since the moment it opened, people holidaying in the area have put the movies in their evening program that they want to enjoy. The space is renovated and has a lovely bar for the visitor to accompany the film.

THESEION

7 Apostolou Pavlou street, Theseion

Cine THESEION is the oldest Summer Cinema in Athens, built-in 1935. The cinema has been renovated to become a little paradise in the historical centre of Athens, right below the Acropolis.

It is neat, green and perfectly suited to the cinema area. It always selects essential films from the classic and alternative cinephile repertoire, allowing visitors to see quality cinema without completely excluding contemporary films.

AMIKO

Epidavrou street & 20, Androutsou street, Polydroso Chalandri

Despite this, the most classic summer cinema of Chalandri does not resemble its former appearance in any way. Now one will find a wooden deck with very comfortable chairs, state-of-the-art projection and sound systems, and a bar from which, in addition to the classic orders, one can enjoy Domino's pizza and an incredible hot dog with fresh buns from a particular bakery.

It is an essential part of Chalandri as viewers from all over Athens visit it, as it is very cool, in a green area and chooses films for all tastes during the summer.

ATHENAIA

50, Charitos street, Kolonaki

In the heart of Kolonaki, where Charitos meets Speysippou, Athenaia was created on an unbuilt plot in 1979. It was famous for its unique handmade cheese pie that passers-by asked to buy even when they didn't want to buy a movie ticket.

The cinema has shown significant films from world cinema and is an essential element of culture in the region. It is a relatively small cinema, but worth a visit. For food or drink, you can always continue the evening at one of the shops on the pedestrian street in Charitos.

ELLINIS

29 Kifisias Ave., Ampelokipi

One of the most excellent summer cinemas in Athens, centrally located on Kifissias Avenue, just before the junction with Alexandras Avenue. Large cinema, renovated with wooden deck, comfortable chairs, small tables and homey sofas to enjoy great films from world cinema, commercial, cinephile, old, first run.

In addition to the classic popcorn, at the bar, you can get nachos with cheese, pizza, etc. With a selection of beers and wine.

Philothei

I. Drosopoulou sq., Filothei

There is much to say about this landmark cinema in the northern suburbs. It is in me. Drosopoulou square, for over 70 years, has shown all kinds of films, it has hosted exhibitions, and you can drink beautiful margaritas from the bar and find yourself in a green, calm and quiet part of Athens. It is undeniably a gem for the area, offering vitality and a unique cinema experience.
